Keep ‘er Lit – 24.06.14

It was great to see the Kells road race return this weekend after a few years absence.

With massive crowds basking in the sunshine all around the 2.2-mile circuit, the races passed off without serious incident, exactly what the promoting club needed.

With 55 Newcomers at Kells, road racing is certainly not in decline.

One of the newcomers I had on my hit list this year for the UGP was Horst Saiger from Austria. I know Horst will go well around Dundrod, but unfortunately he had a mishap on the last lap of the Senior race at the TT.

Although it wasn’t a serious injury he has confirmed he wont be fit in time for the Ulster, but who knows we still might see him over to run his eye over the circuit before he races it in 2015.

On a positive note, having spoken to Gary Johnson this week, he assures me he will be fit in time for Dundrod. Gary was in good form and was even able to tell me how many days it was until race day! He is definitely fired up for a good event.

I also had the pleasure of reading Guy Martin’s autobiography last week and while I have always admired Guy as a great rider, after reading the book I feel I now know a bit about Guy the truck fitter.

The highlight of course was the complete chapter on “The Ulster”. It’s fair to say I was well chuffed, especially as Guy has turned out to be a real Dundrod specialist since his four wins in 2006, and will certainly be the man to beat come August.

With our official launch only 7 days away, I hope we are whetting your appetite for the world’s fastest road race!
