Around A Pound back on board for 2014

In 2014, Around A Pound will once again return to sponsor the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix Supersport race.

For almost 10 years the business has been a major part of Northern Ireland’s road racing scene and the Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club is proud to continue its association with the successful local business.

Established in 1999 by Gerard and Siobhan Rice, Around A Pound was created with an ambition to provide a quality discount store for Northern Ireland. With six stores province wide and over 85 employees, the business has grown steadily over the last 15 years and can today boast thriving online sales to match its in store success. A leading community retailer with humble beginnings, Around a Pound is a familiar name to road racing fans.

Managing Director, Gerard Rice said: “Around A Pound has proudly created a strong presence in pure road racing. It’s part of Northern Ireland’s culture.

“Our shops are well supported by the motorcycle community and our Newcastle store in particular receives significant trade from riders passing through the area, so this is our way of giving back to them.

“We try to support as many local riders as we can, sponsoring six-time Ulster Grand Prix race winner Michael Dunlop alongside Sam Dunlop, Sean Anderson and others, and it’s our way to keep pure road racing in good health. We hope to see many more years of close competition at Dundrod and would encourage as many people as possible to make the trip to Bike Week this August as it is a truly fantastic event.”

Clerk of the course Noel Johnston added: “I’ve known Gerard for many years now and I’ve seen how passionate he is about road racing and the Ulster Grand Prix. There is a great community in our sport and without the continued support of businesses like Around A Pound and fans like Gerard the Ulster Grand Prix wouldn’t be where it is today.”
